2024 Topps Archives Signature Series Baseball – Retired Edition is all about the past. Every card in the product has not only players from yesteryear but cards as well.
Like the similar Active Player Edition, boxes come with one card — an autographed buyback. It’s a simple concept that brings with it a lot of variety.
Every individual card comes numbered to 99 or fewer copies. Historically, it’s often much lower. That said, players may sign several different cards. Due to the nature of the product, the checklist is typically limited to a list of signers versus a full card-by-card breakdown.
What differentiates these buybacks from originals that may have simply been signed at an event or through the mail is a foil stamp. It not only acts as a confirmation that it’s from Topps, but there’s a year noted as well in case the same card has been used in a previous Archives Signature Series release.
Cards also come already in a one-touch holder.

2023-24 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey is a big fan of the number three and its multiples. From tiers on the checklist to serial numbers, the number is a common theme on many parts of the product’s checklist.
One place where the product goes rogue is in the number of hits per hobby box with two total autographs or memorabilia cards.
Building the entire base set requires 250 cards. Within that, though, are four distinct sections with ranging rarities. Veterans take up the first 100 slots and are the most plentiful. The remaining 150 cards are the same group of 50 rookies, each with three (there’s that number) separate Common (/999), Uncommon (/699) and Rare (/299) versions.
Vet parallels require a bix of a matrix as three core colors each have common, uncommon and rare versions:
One-of-one Purple parallels are also available.
Rookies have a similar mix of colors, all the while sticking with their tiers:
Select base cards throughout the checklist also have upgrades with signatures and swatches.
Veteran versions include Jersey (1:24 packs), Gold Autographs (1:48 packs), Patch, numbered Patch Autographs and one-of-one Purple Autographs.
For memorabilia, common rookies have Jersey (/499), Patch (/49) and Tag (/5) parallels. Gold Autographs are numbered to 499 or less for Common, 199 or fewer for Uncommon and 33 or less on Rare. Purple Autographs (1/1) are also available here.
Signature Pucks have been a Trilogy staple for years. These have a piece of puck-like material embedded in them that is used for the signing surface. Standard versions are 1:60 packs for veterans and 1:120 for rookies. Both have Team Logo (/24) and NHL Shield Logo (/3) parallels.
Similar cards include 2022-23 Rookie Update Signature Pucks (/149), goalie-focused Signature Puckstoppers (1:500 packs) and Team Canada Signature Pucks (1:400 packs).
Other autograph themes in 2023-24 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey include Scripted Hall of Fame Plaques (/25), AutoFocus (1:1,200 packs), AutoFocus Rookies (1:1,200 packs) and Crystalized Signatures (1:1,200 packs). Each of these four sets come with on-card signatures.
Memorabilia-specific sets fall under the Team Twigs (/10), Back in Time (/35), and Honorary Triple Swatches (/35 or less).
The 2023-24 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey checklist has a few other insert sets for collectors to chase as well.
Trilogy Generations (1:4 packs) return. These puzzle cards go together to showcase franchise lineage with past, present and emerging stars. Red (/799), Blue (/349), Green (/99) and Pink (/25) parallels are available. Hit versions include numbered Autographs, Jersey (/99), Gold Autographs (/10), Patch (/10), Patch Autographs (/10) and Purple Patch Autographs (1/1).
The debuting Trivium (1:40 packs) take a similar approach only with three players on one card rather than spreading them out. Gold Tint (/49) and Black Ice (1/1) are the parallels here.
Rookie Renditions (1:5 packs) is another place where first-year standouts get the spotlight. Standard parallels line up with Trilogy Generations. Jersey (1:40 packs), Autographs (/99 or less), Patch Autographs (/25 or less) and Purple Patch Autographs (1/1) are also available.
There’s also Rookie Premier (1:32 packs) that also have Gold Tint (/49) and Black Ice (1/1) versions.
Triple Gold Club (/199) highlights players who have won hockey’s biggest prizes on both the NHL ice and international stage.

Headlining this product includes the first officially licensed trading cards of generational talent, Victor Wembanyama!
Configuration: 1 pack per box. 7 cards per pack.
Consisting of 100 cards, the base set isn’t a huge one. When you take into account that it covers multiple sports, the concentration of key names is even more apparent. This is a product that is licensed so players are in uniforms and school logos are used.
Over a dozen parallels are available, all of which are numbered to 99 or less. That said, many of these use the same color for two different versions, likely changing up a pattern on the front as well.
The largest part of the 2022-23 Bowman Inception University checklist is the Base Autographs. At 190 cards, it’s almost double the size of the base set.
Other signature themes include Bowman U Top of the Class Autographs (/100), Primordial Prospects Autographs (/99), Short Print Inception Autographs (/10), and Class of 2023 Die-Cut Autographs (1/1).
Swatches are added to the mix in Inception Autograph Dual Relics (/99), Inception Autograph Jumbo Relics and Inception Autograph Nameplates.
2022-23 Bowman Inception University is the first product to have Victor Wembanyama autographs. Iowa standout Caitlin Clark also has autographs in the product.

The 100-card base set is split between rookies, and veterans and legends. Each pack should deliver one of each.
Parallels all have signatures with the lineup limited to Spectrum Autographs (1:16 packs, rookies – 1:8 packs) and Red Autographs (/15).
Authentic Rookies are among the product’s headliners, delivering both an autograph and a swatch. Depending on the golfer, base versions have 599, 399 or 99 copies. Spectrum parallels top out at 25 copies.
Inked Fabrics (/99 or less) and Inked Rookie Fabrics (/49 or less) take a similar approach with golfer-worn gear. Spectrum parallels come into play here as well, all with 25 or fewer copies.
Inked Drivers get another installment. These have a metal piece designed to resemble a driver embedded into the card that houses the signature. Base versions are 1:3 packs with numbered Black and one-of-one Persimmon parallels also available.
Leaderboard Lettermarks have different letters. The challenge here is in tracking down all that’s required to spell the golfer’s name.
With “Game Used” right there in the name of the product, it shouldn’t be surprising that the 2014 SPGU Golf checklist has its share of memorabilia.
Front 9 Fabrics (1:10 packs) and Back 9 Fabrics (1:24 packs) both return with designs inspired by scorecards. Spectrum parallels have 149 copies or less.
Front 9 Combos Duals (/49) and Six Swatch (/25) have different combinations of shirt pieces, patches, gloves and hats.
More multi-swatch cards are available in Tour Gear (1:2 packs), Tour Gear Combos (1:4 packs) and Tour Gear Trios (1:6 packs). Caps, gloves and buttons are among the materials found in their respective parallels.
Supreme Gear (/5) uses larger swatches for things like bags, caps and gloves.

The base set has 150 cards. For the first 100, which makes up the common shell set, there’s a new look that casts athletes on different backdrops. The look comes from Arena Design, the team behind many iconic late 1990s sets, including some of the most popular Metal Universe releases from the time.
The final 50 cards are part of the All-Millennium subset. Landing every other hobby pack, this is one of Metal’s new themes. They also happen to be short prints, although not ridiculously tough ones.
Parallels come in two general styles, which then diverge into different colors.
First up is a Metal Universe benchmark, Precious Metal Gems. Levels for these include:
Three types of FX parallels are also available in hobby packs for all 150 base cards: Bronze FX (/150), Pink FX (/75) and Orange FX (/25).
Retail blasters are the only place to find Aqua (1:2, All-Millennium 1:4 blaster packs) and Silver Dots (/299) parallels.
Select cards in both sections of the base set also have autographs. Silver are 1:50 hobby packs and 1:240 for All-Millennium. Gold Autographs have no more than 25 copies each.
Most of the inserts in 2023 SkyBox Metal Universe Champions carry familiar names.
Fresh Foundation (1:2 packs) highlight key prospects across several sports. Parallels for these are the same as the base set with several PMGs and FX cards. Numbered Silver and Gold (/10) Autographs can also be found.
Landing approximately one per hobby box, E-X inserts touch on the brand’s 1990s roots using acetate stock and foil highlights. Essential Credentials Now and Essential Credentials Then versions are included on the checklist as well.
Retro 1998-99 Metal Universe Variants (1:5 hobby packs) take things back as far as design go.
The SkyBox Premium brand lives on as an insert. Base versions are 1:5 hobby packs with additional Star Topaz (/150), Star Rubies (/100), Star Sapphire (/75), Star Emerald (/25), Star Amethyst (/10), and Star Diamond (1/1) parallels.
Another throwback brand that returns is Z-Force (1:5 packs). Rave (/150), Super Rave (/50), Galaxy Rave (/25) and Universe Rave (1/1) make up the parallels.
High Voltage (1:9 hobby packs) and Gold Universe (1:13 hobby packs) keep with the product’s big designs, this time using foil stock.
As far as debuts go, there’s Dark Matter (1:450 hobby packs). Rather than the flash most of Metal Universe uses, these go with a black design.
Other rare inserts on the 2023 SkyBox Metal Universe Champions checklist include Jambalaya (1:540 hobby packs), Rave Reviews (1:900 hobby packs) and die-cut Golden Touch (1:180 hobby packs).

Leaf Pop Century has always been the industry standard for celebrity base products. We have introduced some of the biggest names in pop culture history with their first ever signatures. The 2024 version of Pop Century promises to be the greatest release in celebrity pop culture history.
This is not the same old Pop Century, Leaf has revamped the brand.
Nearly every card will be an autograph now.
There are roughly 85 memorabilia pieces that are all amazing pieces, but the rest are all autographs.
The list of signers is incredible.
It includes, but is not limited to: Alec Baldwin, Andrew Garfield, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brie Larson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Christian Slater, Clint Eastwood, Cuba Gooding Jr., Daisy Ridley, Dick Van Dyke, Dolph Lundgren, Bryce Dallas Howard, Chazz Palminteri, Famke Janssen, Rosario Dawson, Elizabeth Olsen, Emilia Clarke, Ewan McGregor, Gene Hackman, Hailee Steinfeld, Hasbulla, Jessica Alba, Joe Pesci, Josh Brolin, Kir Harrington, Kristen Bell, Mcaualey Culkin, Marisa Tomei, Mark Wahlberg, Michael B. Jordan, Patrick Stewart, Paul Bettany, Ron Howard, Ron Perlman, Salma Hayek, Samuel L. Jackson, Susan Sarandon, Sylvester Stallone, Tim Curry, Tom Hiddleston, William Shatner, Zoe Saldana, Laurence Fishburn, Lea Michele and so many more.
With a wide variety of signers, the checklist takes an eclectic approach to themes as well.
For starters, there are Base Autographs. These act as both a foundation for the product as a whole as well as a catch all as far as subjects go.
From there, things divide up into more thematic sets where signers are grouped based on what they’re most famous for, such as roles or movie and TV genres. These include Hero Graphics, Horror Ink and, new for 2024, Fuggetaboutit, which highlights actors from gangster films and shows.
Teen Dream, Starlet, Retro TV and ticket-inspired Now Showing are among Pop Century’s other single-signed signature sets.
This year collectors can look for inscriptions with things like character names or famous lines alongside their autograph. Scripted is one such place to find these.
As has been the case since Pop Century began more than a decade ago, multi-signature cards are also on the checklist. Co-Stars has as many as six different autographs. There’s also Dream Cast.
Every 10-box case has a Leaf Pearl card. While these bypass the chromium stock, these have an ultra high-end build including booklet autographs.
More personalized signatures can be found on these as well with Pop Century Pearl Inscriptions.

14 Cards per Box
2024 Leaf Metal Football marks one of the company’s first hobby releases of the season. While autographs continue to be a major focus, they’re not alone on the checklist. Base cards and other inserts appear as well, bringing with them some creative and colorful designs.
Standard hobby boxes have seven cards, five of which are autographs. Jumbo boxes contain 14 cards. Of those, 10 come with signatures including one slabbed proof.
The product also continues to be a shift away from Leaf Metal being strictly prospects. Draft-eligible players and collegiate standouts are both in the mix and a big part of the checklist. But they’re showcased alongside some current stars and greats from the past.
Besides Base Autographs, some other longstanding autograph themes return like Savage, So Money and State Pride.
Another installment of the Japanese art-inspired Anime Nation is on the checklist as well.
Other autographs include Graffiti Graphs, Lunararity and Dual Autos.
Hobby and jumbo boxes both have an exclusive autograph insert. For hobby boxes, it’s Ironclad. Meanwhile, Meteore cards are only in jumbo.
No individual card in the product has more than 10 copies.

This year, the base set is 350 cards. Veterans are joined by what should prove to be a deep rookie crop. Future Stars, League Leaders and team cards are among the subsets.
The parallels lineup is a big one and includes several exclusives:
True Photo cards should be instantly recognizable. That’s because they remove all design elements from the front leaving just a full-bleed photograph.
These aren’t all of the parallels. Like 2023 Topps Update, value blaster boxes come with three holiday-themed parallels. This time, Easter and spring are the inspiration. Combining to land three per blaster, these parallels include:
As far as variations go, 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball sees the return of Golden Mirror Variations where every base card will have an SSP.
2024 marks the 35th anniversary of 1989 Topps Baseball. In keeping with flagship continuity, the set becomes the inspiration for a new set of inserts. The design sticks with the original but the cards feature a mix of current players and retired stars. Parallels include Blue (600 copies each), Black (/299), Real One (/89) that are on retro stock similar to Heritage, Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1).
1989 Topps Foilboard cards are also available, although they’re exclusive to retail mega boxes. Gold Foil (/50), Orange Foil (/25), Red Foil (/5) and Black Foil (1/1) versions exist, too.
2023 All-Topps Team names the best at each position while 2023 Greatest Hits highlights the season’s top offensive performances.
Grand Gamers and Superstar Blueprint are among the other inserts.
All four of these have the same parallels: Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1). Some cards from Superstar Blueprint, 2023 Greatest Hits and Grand Gamers have autographs as well numbered to 25 or fewer.
Heavy Lumber returns for another year. These come printed on woodgrain stock and have 500 copies each.
Some inserts on the 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball checklist has some inserts that are only in retail packs. These start with another installment of Stars of the MLB. Landing one per retail pack, this set will continue through all three 204 Topps Baseball flagship releases, expanding in Series 2 and Update Series. Red (/75), Black (/25) and Platinum (1/1) parallels are available. There are also Stars of the MLB Chrome (1:10 retail packs) that have Red Refractors (/75), Black Refractors (/25) and Superfractors (1/1).
Topps Mega Stars are only in mega boxes. Foil parallels include Green (/99), Purple (/75), Gold (/50), Orange (/25), Red (/5) and Foilfractor (1/1).
The 1989 Topps theme carries over to autographs. These are signed on-card and mix rookies, veterans and retired players. Black (/199) and Gold (/50) are among the parallels. The checklist also has 1989 Topps Baseball Relics with their own Black (/199), Gold (/50) and Red (/25) versions.
The all-encompassing Baseball Stars Autographs return. Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1) versions can be found as well. Baseball Stars Dual Autographs have no more than 10 copies each.
The 2023 playoffs are highlighted in relics (/99 or less), autographs (/50 or less) and autographed relics (/50 or less) under both the Postseason Performance and World Champion banners.
Major League Materials add more relics to the product. In addition to Black (/199), Gold (/50 or less) and Red (/25 or less) parallels, there are autographed versions that have a max of 50 copies each.
Topps Reverence returns. Exclusive to hobby and hobby jumbo packs, these combine on-card signatures with patch swatches. Base versions have 10 copies each with parallels landing in Red (/5) and Platinum (1/1).
